WATERLOO —
About 18 years ago, when Peter Boak was looking for a place to start his own office furniture business, he looked at the Waterloo area.
Boak and his wife, Jeannette, are already industry veterans in the London area and decided to go east when they went on strike on their own.
\"I have always been passionate about having my own company,\" he said . \"
\"This is one thing on my list.
Attracted by the diversity of the region
In 2000, the couple established a prestigious business in Waterloo.
It was a decision they never regretted.
\"I don\'t think it\'s possible for you to choose a better place in the last 18 years,\" Peter said . \".
\"It\'s just an extraordinary community.
They are very kind to us, and we are very lucky.
\"However, there are still some items on the bucket list that the couple has decided to retire and close their business.
They will vacate their North Country Road showroom on Friday and put things down from home in the next few weeks.
\"This business provides us with a life that I have never dreamed of,\" Peter said . \".
\"But the clock is ticking and you can\'t work forever.
You have to put the priorities in the right place.
\"With approximately six employees, including building technology experts and interior designers, Prestige provides complete planning and design services, its product line ranges from workstations and seating to furniture and equipment for conference rooms, private offices, reception areas and classrooms.
\"We have always been a very small team, but we have achieved a lot,\" said Jeannette . \".
Prestige represents a number of well-known brands in the field of furniture manufacturing, including Herman Miller and kidina-based Krug.
Clients include Google, D2L, Conestoga College, Waterloo area, kidina and Waterloo Public Library.
\"This is not what happened to him,\" said Peter . \".
\"A lot of people are part of our success.
\"When he first started in the industry more than 35 years ago, things were very simple.
\"Everything is just tables and chairs and filing cabinets,\" he said with a smile . \".
The concept of employee comfort or ergonomics is really not considered.
Now, it\'s all about creating a workspace where people want to spend their time.
Technology makes people no longer tied to their desks, says Peter.
Demand for ancillary products in conference rooms, public areas and cafes has increased significantly.
When they fill out some final orders and are ready to hand over the keys to the neighbor acceleration systems company
The pokes acknowledge that their space is expanding and their emotions are complex.
\"There may be some tears on Friday,\" said Jeannette . \".
But we are very proud of what they have achieved.
\"We started from scratch,\" Peter said . \"
\"This is our baby.
