YABO VIEW 丨Exquisite Southern California beach life Santa Monica Proper

When you think of tourist attractions like Los Angeles and Santa Monica, the first thing that comes to mind is undoubtedly the sun, the beach, and the slow life by the seashore. The Proper Hotel in Santa Monica, a beach town in Los Angeles, inspired by the coastline of Southern California, the design allows guests to enjoy the most authentic slow seaside life.

The hotel's Cool California style blends the laid-back atmosphere of beach life with high-end art deco architecture and art galleries, breaking down the boundaries between leisure and elegance. The hotel is in an excellent location. The beach is only a short walk away. The new Proper hotel is a renovation of a Spanish colonial revival building from the late 1920s. The renovated Proper was designed by architect Howard Laks. The curving lines of the hotel and the straight lines of the historic landmark blend to reveal the unique character of Santa Monica.

Besides the exterior, the interior design of Santa Monica Proper is also very desirable. The interior of the hotel was created by interior designer Kelly Wearstler. Wearstler selected a collection of stylish furniture and contemporary art by Los Angeles artists for the hotel, inspired by the local coastline, and decorated the interior with a combination of sandy tones, natural materials, and organic textures.

Santa Monica Proper hotel also has two restaurants, created by two of California's most innovative chefs; The top floor of the hotel has an open-air swimming pool with a bistro.

In addition, the hotel also has an internal spa, which offers rooms for massage, yoga, and meditation. In the Proper hotel, guests can indulge in the relaxing coastal life of Southern California.

The original 1928 building was designed by architect Arthur E. Harvey, which is located in the heart of Santa Monica, the six-storey building offers a sense of its former glory, from the Moorish details and baroque decorations on the exterior to the lavish interiors.

But the renovated Santa Monica Proper is a stark contrast. The refurbished building shows a modern and fashionable minimalist style. The exterior is mainly made of undulating glass and concrete, and the refurbished building harmonizes with the old building.

Wearstler's interior combined the feature of the old and new building perfectly. Inspired by the California shoreline, with soft earthy tones and natural materials such as wood, stone, and plaster to reinterpret the relaxed lifestyle of California. A sandy palette, light-colored hardwood floors, organic textiles, and interior palm tree furnishings are used to create a relaxed and quiet beachfront atmosphere.

Floor-to-ceiling windows, balconies, and garden terraces bathe the hotel in the sun and make it very spacious. The Proper hotel presents incisively and vividly in the interior for the unique views of the beach, sun, and sand.

The hotel's decor is inspired by the natural landscape of Southern California, providing a rich stay experience for the guests. In addition, the hotel has a large collection of works of art, including works by Los Angeles native artists Ben Medansky and Morgan Peck, textile artists Tanya Aguiniga, painter Len Klikunas, and sculptor Bradley Duncan. Wearstler says she's very happy to work with local artists to showcase their works in the hotel, offering guests the most authentic Southern California experience and local culture.

The Southern California lifestyle of the Proper hotel is no exception in the restaurant. Onda, the hotel's signature restaurant in the lobby on the first floor, offers a Mexican - and California-inspired nautical menu. The ingredients are based on seasonal Ingredients unique to California. The signature restaurant is a collaboration between two famous Californian chefs, Jessica Koslow and Gabriela Camara. Calabra, on the top floor of the hotel, is overseen by executive chef Kaleo Adams, who blends the fresh Mediterranean and California cuisine with ocean views for a laid-back dining experience.

Proper's pensiveness is also evident in the hotel's luxury spa, which is run by the famous Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) therapist Martha Soffer. Mr. Soffer's own Surya Spa is also popular with Hollywood stars in the area.
